Theoloog Miroslav Volf: Geestdrift Festival was an intellectual and aesthetic delight. A vibrant way to wrestle with great issues of our time and our lives

New York and Zeeland street legend Baby Dee: There are lots and lots of festivals. What sets Geestdrift apart is that it does something that nobody else does. It creates an unlikely home for the spirits of people in a place they wouldn’t otherwise feel they belong — in a church. We all ought to belong somewhere. Geestdrift is a good somewhere.  A good somewhere for us ‘unbelongers’.

Filosoof en Theoloog Jeffrey Robbins: Geestdrift is an absolute treasure, a carefully curated collection of art, music, and presentations that will provoke and inspire. Don’t let its whimsy confuse its seriousness of purpose. It is a showcase of a progressiveness and inclusive religious spirit at its best.

Activist, dichter, Rumi-kenner Azadeh Sobout: I feel blessed and honoured to have had the opportunity to be part of the 2019 Geestdrift Festival. As an activist and researcher inspired by the everyday acts of spirituality, I joined Geestdrift to connect with others and share some of my personal reflections on spiritual activism. The journey to Utrecht brought me a renewed spiritual consciousness and ways of connecting.By providing a creative and engaged space for sharing music, poetry and stories of humour, commemoration and hope, Geestdrift Festival offers a way to bridge difference and creates a spiritual consciousness that connects spirituality to the everyday experience of people. It initiates an opportunity for renewal and spiritual transformation as inspired by personal relationship. As a Muslim woman, observing and challenging marginalisation in faith, the festival provided me with a platform to reconnect my experience of spirituality to other bodies and to the world. It enabled me to actively contribute to formation of a spiritual community that struggles for personal growth and social justice. My participation at the festival was an uplifting experience that reconfigured my position as a woman within the context of current spirituality.
